Can't use Shift + $ activation shortcut on Yosemite

After upgrading to a clean install of Yosemite it seems TotalTerminal won’t let me use the activation shortcut I’ve always used, Shift + $. When I try to set it only registers the Shift key, while the keypress for the $ sign results in an error sound. It seems it won’t let you set Shift in combination with any other character either, unless you add an extra modifier key. Is there any way around this?

For some reason this is a limitation of new keyboard shortcut recording component (MASShortcut).

You can try to install http://totalterminal.binaryage.com/#1.4.11, record shortcut and then upgrade to latest.

Or alternatively you can edit com.apple.Terminal.plist, see this thread for inspiration:

Thank you, installing 1.4.11, changing the shortcut, and then upgrading worked.
