All that I really want to do is to disable the ApplicationSwitcher Swoosh Animation (sideways) as well as the boot-up animation (zoom in). Can you tell me a terminal command that will do these things?

I replied directly to you by email, but for others that find this question:
TotalSpaces2 will allow you disable the animation for switching between spaces. The boot-up animation we have no influence over unfortunately.
I wish I could give you a terminal command to do this (particularly as you don’t need all the features of TotalSpaces), but there isn’t one - it’s a bit more complex unfortunately. We need to have a plugin in the Dock application and intercept some graphics routines in order to modify the animations.
