This seems intuitive so maybe it has been requested before. I’d like to see preferences allow for the following logic:
If finder location exists as tab, do not open new tab, but instead, route the user to existing tab location (instead of opening a new tab).
I end up with lots of tabs for the Desktop for example, when the same tab would be fine for all cases.
