TotalFinder: Reveal in Finder...NOT!

Many times a day I have to do something
that demands that I right click on an item
and select: REVEAL IN FINDER.
This NEVER works in TotalFinder.

Instead, I have to first go to the Finder…
Relaunch the Finder…
And then go back to the item in question and then select REVEAL IN FINDER.
TotalFinder is one of the most important/useful apps I have used
in the 28 years that I have exclusively used Mac.
PLEASE fix this!

Reported months ago, they ignored that too.

Personally, I’ll wait until Xtrafinder releases a 10.13 version.

Hopeless, no pretence at support would be better than bad support. Support is an integral part of software development. If my mechanic can’t fix cars he ought to find another job.

I’m watching these forums but it is not guaranteed that I reply to everything. The point is that people could try to help each other when possible. In this case “Reveal in Finder” seems to work for me, for example when downloading something in Chrome and clicking “Show in Finder” on downloads page. If this didn’t work people would be screaming here. This must be an isolated issue related to your system or combination of apps. If you really have a pressing issue, you should send an email to support@binaryage.com.

And for record I prefer bug reports which are descriptive and ideally reproducible. For example I need you to include macOS version, TotalFinder version, some repro steps, maybe relevant Finder / TotalFinder settings, etc.

Yes. well. I’m not the original poster but I have sympathy for what he appears to be feeling. It just isn’t good enough to say it’s an isolated instance because the mongol hordes haven’t yet appeared on the horizon, and it isn’t acceptable to blame the customer for not providing more details of the problem. It’s up to the people selling the product to make sure the product is of a merchantable quality.

Compared with other products on the market, this performance is execrable, although the attitude to customers sadly appears to increasingly common these days. I no longer use TF but I do feel it is not worth the price.

Ok Darwin…
Before I try to clearly describe this problem,
I want to say that TF remains one of the most
useful, effective, important apps I have ever used
in all my years with Apple which I have used exclusively since 1989.
I cannot imagine using a mac without TF.
Occasionally I fire up a copy of the various TF alternatives…
chuckle to myself…and then return to TF.
Even with the problem I will outline here…
I could never imagine life without TF
which is why I came up with a workaround
instead of no longer using TF so…thank you!

  • TF: 1.10.7
  • OS 10.12.6 but…
this has been a problem for a very long time.
    If I wasn’t dealing with Parkinson’s…
I would have reached out sooner…sorry.
  • I couldn’t find a Finder pref that seemed
    relevant to this conversation.
  • In TF I basically use everything.
  1. I am in a popular search app called Tembo.
I locate the item I am looking for (a pdf).
I right click and select Reveal in Finder.
This brings up the last window I was in in the finder
but not the window I need.
I relaunch finder to turn off TF.
Go back to Tembo and select the same item.
I right click and select Reveal in Finder.
This brings me to the correct folder and the item I was searching for.
I then go back to the copy of TF I always keep in my dock
and turn on TF again from there.

  2. I am in another popular search tool: EasyFind.

I relaunch finder to turn off TF.
Go back to EasyFind and select the same item.
I right click and select Reveal in Finder.
This brings me to the correct folder and the item I was searching for.
I then go back to the copy of TF I always keep in my dock

  3. I am in another popular search tool: Find Any File.
