TotalSpaces2 v2.5.4 on MacOS 10.11.2 - can't change space from overview grid

bug

#1

Title; Overview grid shows up, but when I click on a space, it just highlights it; it won’t actually GO to that space. Pressing esc to exit the overview usually will take me to the space I selected. This also throws off my ‘swipe to change spaces’ sometimes - seems like parts of TotalSpaces know what desktop I’m on and other parts think I’m still on the last desktop.

This / these bugs didn’t show up until a few weeks after I installed TotalSpaces. I did not perform an upgrade from the time I installed to the time I started experiencing these issues. I did upgrade this morning, and the issues persist.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as this is interfering with my workflow now. Thank you in advance.

#2

Does changing space using hotkeys work normally?

#3

The issue is intermittent and not present at the moment, but the hotkeys work right now. I don’t normally use them, so I can’t say with certainty.

#4

Just after I commented, issue returned. Hotkeys still working. Seems to only happen from the instant expose or overview grid.

#5

I’m pretty sure this is a problem related to TotalSpaces not being able to set the front window correctly.

Is it possible for you to send me some logs so I can investigate?

Open Console.app (from Utilities), and type Dock into the search bar at the top.

Then enter the overview grid, try to change space. Then go back to console and copy-paste the logs from there. I’m hoping there will be a clue in those.

If there is nothing there, then you can try searching for TotalSpaces instead of Dock in Console.app.

#6

Done. This is a search for ‘Dock,’ immediately after a reboot. The issue was present at the time.:

Nothin suspicious looking there. I’ll have a look at the code and see if I can come up with a theory as to what’s going on.

#8

Appreciated. I’d be happy to run a version with more verbosity in the logs for a few days if that might help. I can provide video of the issue as well if it would be useful. Thank you for looking into this.

#9

Some more behavioral info that might help you:

After using control+option+g to open the instant expose, I click on a different desktop. Selected desktop gets highlighted with a white box, but display doesn’t ‘zoom’ to that desktop. Pressing esc does close the instant expose, but it zooms back to the current desktop before snapping to the new one that was highlighted.

So it ‘sort of’ works… Just definitely not correctly.

I don’t think this would have any effect, but I’m using BetterTouchTool to register a 4-finger swipe up and trigger my control+option+g shortcut, and a 4-finger swipe down to trigger a press of the esc key. Using the shortcuts manually doesn’t have any effect.

Hmm, sounds like something is blocking the space change whilst the overview grid is present.

I’ve been thinking about what that could be. I don’t know, but I do wonder if BTT is having some effect here. Might be worth stopping that and seeing if there is any change.

#11

I disabled BTT at your recommendation, but I’ve still experienced the issue. Might an update to Sierra do anything?
