Why can't I change the Documents icon in the sidebar?

Why can’t I change the Documents icon in the sidebar?
I’ve custom made a colored folder for my Documents folder and Get Info shows the colored folder but it does not show up in the sidebar.

I always thought the side bar shows a default only icon even if you changed the original icons as viewed in Get Info. Totalfinder can make those default icons in color.

I think sidebar is using different set of icons (since Lion). What you did by changing icon via Get Info dialog is the icon shown in list/column/icon view or in tab next to folder’s name. This does not affect sidebar. (my $.02)

I believe your both correct.

My default icon is a couple pieces of paper
folded at the corner and has no color.
Is this correct?
