How does the colored sidebar icons functionality work?

Hello. I figured out how to get seperators in the to finder sidebar, but it appears to only work if you have colored sidebar icons enabled in TotalFinder. Would you be able to explain how colored sidebar icons works? I just need to know if it’s something proprietary or not, since if it isn’t I wanted to release a blog post and my method along with the assets.

We took sources from here and implemented the same method in TotalFinder:

It just replaces some icons during sidebar rendering. I don’t think it should affect your separators. They should work the same way.
