Can we help test Total Spaces 3 if we have Apple silicon?

It seems to me that this project is dead. I’ve been asking about the licencing for TS3 and no one answers. It’s weird, when you have money to spend on something, but that’s not a good enough driver of change. We had people asking about the possibility of opening the source code and it didn’t happen. Obviously Stephen can’t be arsed to update the app and he doesn’t want people to touch it. He also doesn’t want people to pay for an incomplete product, no matter how much they are willing to pay for it. Such a waste!

I’m using Mission Control now. And you know what? I still hate it! I wish this project were not wasted on pointless crying in a forum.

I intend the animations between spaces of the grid, thanks anyway man!

Well - to get an Open Source project going one must get an Open Soirce project going. It’d be easier to not do that (and grumble) than actually rally enthusiastically to see who might want to participate. I’d wager that rally interest in here is maybe a start but this zone is Chernobyl as near as I can tell. Such a project could happen but the question is: who’s the showrunner for it? Who’s the kid who has a ball and gets all the other kids excited to play?

@matthew, that sounds cool. Are you willing to do a quick screen recording or video of the end result and post it for people to see? I may give it a try if that works, TS3 is not cutting it for me in its current state which is a shame since TS2 was excellent

@StegosaurusFriend - search youtube for yabai window manager, there are lots out there already.

@bleeckerj - I’m actually a little surprised that there haven’t been more power users interested in taking the lead on an open sourcing effort.

I also didn’t see that. For example, if I have a 3x3 grid and I’m on desktop 4, I want to be able to do a Command+Up Arrow to go up to Desktop 1. Is this even possible?

I love my new Apple Silicon macbook, but I HATE not having functionality that was in TS2. I’ve used a grid type virtual desktop since 1995 with FVWM on Solaris and Linux, and it’s not something that I want to give up. It’s amazingly frustrating to not have functionality that I have been using daily for nearly 30 years.

BUG REPORT
I’ve been using TotalSpaces3 for a couple of weeks. It has worked mostly great. Only two issues - a major one today: TotalSpaces no longer starts - not automatically with my system nor when I click on the app. Tried restarting the system, uninstall and reinstall app & preference files and nothing. The other bug since I installed it is that when I click on an open in the system tray that is already open in another desktop space, my Mac tries to go to it and hops right back to the the space where I originally way. Upon a second click on the system tray, then my screen does switch to the desired app/space. Thanks for your continues work on this app. I’m on MacOs Ventura 13.2.1 and using TS3 v.0.9.125. Wellington.

  1. It runs on Apple Silicon M2 Max with Ventura (13.2.1)*! That is the
    https://downloads.binaryage.com/TotalSpaces3-0.9.125.dmg
version (repeating the link so it’s easier to find among all the Intel-related posts )
  2. Can people please stop posting about Intel-related things :rage:! Read the topic title, and feel free to remove your earlier Intel-related comments.
  3. This is helluva lot better than nothing (but it does have the quirks mentioned earlier)
  4. I’m still willing to sponsor someone with $100 for a “full replacement”, in particular the “drag current window along as you navigate to other spaces”
  5. Thank you

Oh, and the menu bar icon disappeared in the transition to the M2. No biggie, I only use it for access to settings, which can be achieved by cmd-space + “tot” + “yup, I mean TotalSpaces3, thank you”.

Is this still in development, the TotalSpaces 3? the resent beta is quite old

Nobody has heard from the developers on this forum in a while so… probably not?

Time to accept that it’s dead in the water.
I decided to stop using it and suffer Mission Control.
It’s just too glitchy and annoying at this point.

Just recently got M1 MB Pro running Monterey. Had to turn off SIP. It came with Monterey so sticking with that for the moment. TS-3 runs fairly ok.

Even though I consider this soft dead, there is a part of me that’s still hoping for a comeback from the developers. Without this tool, os x is barely usable

Sad but true. Have you tried space capsule? It’s okay. https://spacecapsule.app/

Has anyone tried TS3 with Sonoma 14.4 yet?

Yes, it works, I’ve never stopped using it ! And it works relatively well on my MacBook Pro 14’’ M1 Max super vitamined (64 g RAM), even though transitions between spaces could be faster. And windows can be moved between spaces. Soo much better than Apple’s spaces view on the top of the screen where you just can’t see what’s in the spaces.

Hi,
Unfortunately, after installing macOS 14.5 TS3 stopped moving windows around spaces. I’ve uninstalled it and installed again but no success. Everything else works as before. Do you have the same problem?
Regards,
antonio.
