This is a feature that’s missing from OSX that would be wonderful to have.
Many users are used to two-finger swipe navigation in OSX web browsers - it was an oversight for apple to not include the same functionality in Finder.
Let’s wait for what Finder brings in 10.11

this would be an invaluable yet simple implementation that I’d love to see. @replete have you tried setting that with something like bettertouchtool? I haven’t played w/ it in awhile but i’m sure it’d be readily configurable and system-wide :]
