FYI: Progressive Slowness Culminating in Crash with Fix

Running TotalSpaces2 v 2.2.9 on 10.10.1 (14B25)

For some months now, prior certainly back to 10.9 would maybe once a week grow slow, especially in closing the Overview Grid. Restarting the app would resolve for a few days. Last month grown more common to the point of restarting daily.

Also, stopped switching to space with active window for application.

Finally today, app quit. Upon relaunch was black of spaces and apps and could add neither desktops nor apps. The application folder was present but empty.

  1. Quite App

  2. Removed :

    com.binaryage.totalspacescrashwatcher.plist
    com.binaryage.TotalSpaces2.plist

  3. Restarted. Had apps, the correct number of desktops but in wrong order. Overview Grid now responsive. Switches to space with active window for app per settings.

  4. Seems fixed but will track.

I have the two files mentioned above which I can email you upon request

The plist files are just the settings, I don’t think they should be causing problems.

One thing you can try is to use lower memory mode: use this command at a terminal prompt:

defaults write com.binaryage.TotalSpaces2 lowerMemoryUsage -bool YES
