Has anyone tried, and can share, if something works on Tahoe, please?
Taken from the “update discussion”, where someone stated the following:
“TotalFinder 1.15.1 works with MacOS 26 (Tahoe) on an M1 MBP except for the prefs panel. I had it running on MacOS 15.5 Sequoia, installed the new MacOS 26 beta 1 (25A5279m) and it came up fine. Interesting is that the beta did not reset SIP.”
I can’t get it working on a clean install. It won’t inject the code. I followed all the steps to install on Apple Silicon, then the guide at /injection-troubles. It failed every time. I also made sure TotalFinder is allowed under Automation, Full Disk Access, and Accessibility (for good measure) in Privacy & Security.
Just tried to install it on Tahoe. Disable SIP and system security as instructed. There were also a bunch of other commands that TotalFinder asked be enabled/disabled when launched.
After doing all that, TotalFinder appears in the Finder settings but it cannot be accessed.
So, for the moment, unless someone has a fix, it does not work
I have been running it on an M2 MBA, and it works. This is an upgraded system, as i had it working on Sequoia before upgrading. Currently running on macOS 26 Dev Beta 5, and its flawless.
I’m not certain what’s preventing it from working on a clean install, though.
I have finally gotten it working.
The problem with a clean install is that it involves a wealth of steps involved which include disabling SIP and putting the computer in permissive security. I think there are additional steps once you start TotalFinder for the first time after all that is done.
The big problem is that the preference pane can’t be accessed. I was lucky. I had TotalFinder operating on a second Mac so I took the 3 .plist files and copied over to the new Mac I was installing it on.
Mind you, I only need the VISOR feature and that is what I got so I am happy.
You’re right - getting TF running isn’t for the faint of heart. It does take a LOT of off-line work to get the utility running, including putting the device in permissive security (which would be awesome to have automated thru the apps install routines, but I KNOW I’m smoking crack on that one, and won’t even suggest/ask for it, as automating something that happens in the recovery environment likely isn’t possible…) And yes, I think you’re right in saying there are some POST install steps that have to take place in order to get it to work properly.
Thanks, @Ronald_Epstein for reminding me of all this. It’s been a while since I’ve installed TF from scratch.
Please does TotalFinder work on intelmac with Tahoe?
I have totalfinder on macOS Sequoia and it works fine (but without preferences)
Yes, TotalFinder does work on my Intel Mac on Tahoe, which I upgraded from from Sequoia. No preferences, but otherwise seems to work fine.
Thank you for the good news
So far in my testing on 3 machines, I can’t get TotalFinder to install on a new / clean install of Tahoe, so matter what I try, it fails to inject the code. However, it works perfectly find if upgrading from an older OS with TotalFinder already installed, you just can’t edit preferences. If anyone has any special steps they did to get TotalFinder funning on a clean install, please share here.\
I was able to get TotalFinder to install on a clean install of macOS 26.0.1 on a 2019 Intel-based MacBook Pro. After installing TF,
- I rebooted into recovery to disable SIP,
- Rebooted back into macOS,
- Gave the appropriate permissions to TF to modify the Library
It was that easy. Of course, the Preferences tab in Finder Settings doesn’t work, but I don’t care. I have NOT tried this on a clean install on either of my Apple Silicon Macs. I dare not, as I don’t want to lose functionality! If I have to rebuild anything, I am going to need to do a good Time Machine back up first!
But at least it should work on a clean install for anyone using an Intel Mac.
