Totalfinder stalls after "security update 2014-002 1.0"

Just updated 10.9.2 to the “security update 2014-002 1.0” and total finder won’t launch. It stalls and I have to force quit. I uninstalled and reinstalled but that didn’t fix it. Then I just installed the 1.5.36 beta but it still stalls. Any suggestions how to fix?

Hi, please look into Console.app when you launch /Applications/TotalFinder.app. There could be some error messages.

This guy had similar issues under 10.8:

Here’s my console when I launch.

TotalFinder has been succesfully injected into com.apple.finder

That means TotalFinder was injected into your Finder. So the code failed later.

Aren’t you using any SIMBL addons? I see SIMBL.osax mentioned in the logs.

should I toss the SIMBL.osax?

Just did the following:
-switched to another user where Total Finder works without problems
-switched back to main user and tossed plists, SIMBL.osax, and it’s buried folders
rebooted
Total Finder opened asking about updates, then displayed multiple tabs, but had spinning rainbow wheel.
Not sure what else to toss/try.

here’s a fresh log…

You should review all stuff in /Library/ScriptingAdditions and ~/Library/ScriptingAddtions, If you need to use SIMBL, please consult their documentation, how to uninstall it properly. Or if you need some SIMBL plugins, review their locations. According my quick google search you should be looking into:

Plugins can be copied into /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins for all users, or ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins for just your account.

Maybe you could use Activity Monitor to sample Finder process during the spinning wheel. But I don’t think it will help us to find the issue. It usually produces a lot of data.

So I deleted all aspects of SIMBlL. Ran the uninstaller and manually tossed everything from the folders. I also removed other .osax files such as “bartender helper” “default folder X Additon” and “Adobe Unit Types”.
Then rebooted and Total finder was working for about a minute. Here’s the log of that experience.

Here’s an RTF of the log as it was running and finally crashing a minute later.

it’s actually working now after a reboot.

Thanks for reporting all the details. Unfortunately I cannot help much. This is most likely some issue with your machine/system.

it’s actually working now after a reboot.

Ok, let’s hope it will run just fine.
