[Update Discussion] TotalFinder 1.15.1 for Apple Silicon and Intel — macOS 13, 12, 11, and 10.15

As far as I have seen, TotalFinders preferences hasnt been successfully loaded into Finders settings since Sonoma.

Some settings are available in the menu bar. (View for example has Dual mode, ProgressBar etc), however, if you follow below, more setting are available.

  1. Navigate to /Users/(your home folder)/Library/Preferences
  2. Open com.binaryage.totalfinder.plist
  3. Change appropriate / desired settings and save.
  4. Reboot

Most settings in there are a on / off unless specifying a dimension / position.
0 - Off
1 - On

Example:

Key Type Value
TotalFinderCopyPathMenuEnabled Number 1

Hope this helps, good luck :+1:

hi @akemin_dayo does the dock progress bar for Finder requires SIP disabled totally or partially? If not, is it possible to have functions that don’t require SIP in something like a TotalFinder lite app?

@akemin_dayo do you (or anyone else?!?) know if Total Finder will work in MacOS26 Tahoe? I’m really hoping all will be fine. Would be great to hear if anyone has been testing Total Finder with the OS26 betas.

I can confirm that TotalFinder works on Tahoe MacOS 26.

It initially didn’t in the earlier betas. I just upgraded from Sequioa to Tahoe Beta 5 and everything works great.

However, I would recommend that you do the following:

Go into MAC → USER → LIBRARY → PREFERENCES

Look for the 3 .plist files that begin with com.binaryage.totalfinder

Copy those 3 files and put them somewhere safe. Should you ever have to do a fresh install, you are going to have issues accessing the TotalFinder preference pane. By pasting those 3 .plist files over the default ones, your preferences will be copied over and TotalFinder will work exactly as you need it to.

Of course, make certain that you turn SIP and NVRAM off. Also, be sure Security Startup Settings are set to PERMISSIVE and both permissions beneath that (dealing with kernels) are checkmarked. All this can be done by booting into restore mode.

Great, thanks Ronald. And yes I should have security settings and such set already for current use of Total Finder, so hopefully that won’t get altered when I eventually update. Great to know we’re not going to be screwed when the OS update officially comes out.
